Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone! I’m Joan Dulera épouse Delmas from France. Fondly called by my peers here as Madame Delmas, I am a budding writer, a mom of two, a Filipina-French wife, a sports enthusiast, an animal lover, and a traveler. It is of great honor and happiness to finally present my first written poetry book to you, but I hope not the last titled, Heart Talks: Healing Through Poetry.
This is the first poetry book I have written and officially published with GMGA Publishing. After a decade of writing and collecting all the poems I had written, I finally made my dream come true. This book is so special to me as I put my whole heart into writing them. Poems that are full of emotions, readers will be able to relate to each of them as it tackles different issues in life: daily struggles, on love and heartaches, regrets, depressions, about the struggles on being on the AUTISM Spectrum, as I am a mom of a seven-year-old autistic kid, so I am, spreading awareness on that through my poems too. Also, relevant issues that affect society lately due to the covid epidemic; you know Suicides/Suicidal thoughts, on Animal Cruelty, as I'm an advocate on that being a certified animal lover myself. My self-healing journey had helped me a lot in those years when I was at the lowest point of my life. This book will touch readers' hearts of all ages, and definitely, they can relate to this book. I'm not particularly eager to make comparisons as each writer has unique concepts and ideas. Different writers have different ways of presenting their books to the public, so it is peculiar on their own. My book, Heart Talks: Healing Through Poetry, is unique in my perspective, and it echoes what my heart wants to say; thus, the book bears its title. It also shows my personality and life all these years being away from my family in a foreign land where everything is different from what I had gotten used to when I was still in the Philippines. A lot happened in a decade, there were good experiences that brought joy and fun like motherhood and traveling, for example, but I can't deny that there were also some experiences that I had to pass through to make me who I am now. All in all, good or bad, they were all experiences worth sharing with everyone—an eye-opener, an educative one that surely reader will be able to relate to.
It took me more than a decade to finally come up with this book of poetry. I was not also in good shape when I started writing the book. I had my fair share of daily struggles, heartaches from losing someone so dear in your heart, discriminations, and even discouragement from people within your circle who thought I was not good enough to be a writer, and worst, to write poetry book that doesn't sell. These are just a few of the many reasons that contributed to the duration why it took me so long to finish this book. I was at the lowest point of my life when the idea of going back to writing poems came into my mind. I remembered shedding tears (bucket of tears ha-ha) every night when writing each poetry while listening to sad songs. I would be crying so hard while pouring my emotions into every word I wrote. It was always sleepless nights spent in front of the computer writing them. Challenging, but I'm glad I survived. My family is my inspiration. When I look at my beautiful kids and my loving, very supportive husband, Juan, they give me the courage to keep going and make my dream come true. I am 42 and I guess that it is never too late to work for that dream. And finally, here we are. I've achieved it with the help of my very kind publisher/editor Mam Ayo Gutierrez and the rest of the GMGA Publishing fellow writers/authors who helped me make this book a reality!
I hope that my readers will remember never to give up! To keep going despite the struggles we encountered in life. Believe in yourself that there will always be a rainbow after the rain to remind us the storm has passed. Continue to work for those dreams; age isn't a hindrance to achieving that. To love with all your heart, to break it many times but never lose faith, believe in second chances. To never let anyone discourage you by putting doubts into your head for what more extraordinary things you can do with God's given talent. Above all, never let your faith be swayed just because all the bad things and setbacks were happening towards you. These will also pass, and you will come out of these experiences a wiser, stronger person and a real Winner!
Heart Talks: Healing Through Poetry will touch my readers' hearts and eventually inspire them in their lives. I am hopeful that reading this book will also motivate them to try writing as their way of coping with their inner struggles, just like I did. Express yourself; don't let those emotions be contained inside. Let it out through writing, your best therapy.
A week ago, I did some acting roles in a Canal plus TV series in France. I just finished the shoot with this small role on this TV series which was my first acting experience, but I hope not the last. It was very memorable since I had the chance to be part of a big production with really known French actors here in France with an award nominee director. I hope it will pave the way for other opportunities in this field. Also, I have been planning to write a memoir book on my life here in France after this poetry book or a collection of Haiku Poems. I have so many things I want to do. Aside from the memoir book and collection of haikus, I want to write movie scripts and a crime suspense novel, compose some song lyrics, write a travel book guide. Furthermore, I plan to practice my martial arts again, travel, and discover more countries that we haven't visited yet once this covid epidemic is gone.
